Gregory Peck stars in this biography chronicling the life of one of America's most famous wartime generals, Douglas MacArthur. This film covers the final years of his wartime service from his triumphant victory over the Japanese during World War II, and his subsequent efforts to help rebuild and establish democratic government in Japan, through his successes and failures during the Korean War and his eventual firing by President Harry Truman. MacArthur is presented in his full contradictions, as both hero and glory-hound. A man who respected tradition but often followed the beat of his own drums (to the ire of Franklin Roosevelt, and especially Harry Truman.)
Co-starring Ed Flanders, Dan O’Herlihy (The Old Man to RoboCop fans.), and Marj Dusay as Mrs. Jean MacArthur
Look closely for, in small parts, Art Fleming (yes, Jeopardy fans, THAT Art Fleming) and Russell Johnson (The Professor to Gilligan’s Island fans.) as a Navy Admiral.
